Urban space is overwhelmingly designed for automobiles. A single parking space (2.4m×5m) holds one car all day, yet it could serve 100 citizens as a rest area.
Temporary transformation of parking spaces into citizen-oriented micro-parks—mini gardens, café terraces, galleries, and play areas—as part of the global PARK(ing) Day campaign. This tactical urbanism approach tests possibilities through low-cost, reversible interventions.
The central question—“Do all these spaces really need to be for cars?”—challenges automotive hegemony through experiential proof. Temporary interventions have seeded permanent policy changes, including parklet ordinances converting parking to pedestrian rest zones.
